Joining ACM

What is the ACM?

The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) is the world's oldest and largest educational and scientific computing society. Since 1947, ACM has provided a vital forum for the exchange of information, ideas, and discoveries. Today, ACM serves a membership of more than 80,000 computing professionals in more than 100 countries in all areas of industry, academia, and government.

ACM publishes, distributes, and archives original research and firsthand perspectives from the world's leading thinkers in computing and information technologies. ACM offers over two dozen publications that help computing professionals negotiate the strategic challenges and operating problems of the day. The 36 ACM Special Interest Groups offer a wealth of publications, conferences and resource archives covering a broad spectrum of technical expertise and providing first-hand knowledge of the latest development trends.

The more than 100 professional and local SIG chapters and 400 student chapters worldwide function as intellectual and geographical nodes of activity for both ACM members and the computing community at large, offering seminars, lectures, and the opportunity to meet peers and experts in many fields of interest.

The Georgia State University Student Chapter of the ACM offers GSU students and faculty the chance to hear speakers covering the latest topics in the computing field, visit local companies and research centers, and exchange ideas with other students and faculty in an informal setting.

How do I join the ACM?

Students may join the GSU Student Chapter of the ACM, the national ACM organization, or both. Membership in one organization does not confer membership in the other.
