Dr. Lyman Hurd

Dr. Hurd will talk about how YouTube uses machine learning to improve recommendations for users. This system earned YouTube a technical Emmy in 2013. He will discuss the problem of figuring out how to maximize user engagement. In addition, he will discuss some of the work being done by his team to tailor YouTube for the next billion users in emerging markets.


Speaker's Bio: 

Lyman Hurd is Technical Lead for YouTube’s Payment & Reporting team, which manages the distribution of most of the revenue flowing through YouTube. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics from MIT and a Ph.D. in Mathematics from Princeton. Before joining Google, Dr. Hurd was a mathematics professor at Rutgers, Swarthmore, and the University of Maryland. Three out of his four children have attended GSU
